Case study on new blog

There is so much information out there about how blogs are the cream of the crop when it comes to getting search engine traffic.  There are countless “internet marketing” ebooks and tutorials with testimonials about how they get thousands of visitors and make thousands every month.

I’ve said it before, simply copying someone else is no guarantee that you will get the same results.  In fact, you’ll most likely fail.  I got an email yesterday about some “copy cat” system with screen shots of traffic and earnings that were very convincing.  They give you the exact steps, web templates, etc…  But I’ve learned it’s simply never that easy.

The past three days I’ve been trying a couple of new things on a brand new blog : College Girl Fucked

I submitted one free site and two galleries from my main domain nexusgold.com.  At the top of each gallery I put the domain name CollegeGirlFucked.com (just and image with no link) and at the bottom I put the anchor text “College Girl Fucked” with a link to the main page of the blog.

Basically I’m going for name recognition (for direct type in traffic) and seo on the keyword “College Girl Fucked”.

Most of the tgp submits are now live except for thehun.  Tommys and Persiankitty are live today.  The free site still is not listed everywhere – maybe less than half of the directories have reviewed and posted it yet.

So it’s really too early to say what will become of the above submits, but I do want to give you some preliminary results that are very encouraging.

Direct traffic from the link at the bottom of the gallery pages: and “type-in” traffic:

Referrers:

Summary: referral traffic to the root directory of my site: 120

  • Google: 72 hits
  • Misc: 26 hits
  • Link from galleries: 22 hits

About another 50 hits from google (search and images) to individual posts.  No direct “typein” traffic at all.

Keywords from search engine searches:

As you can see, the results are very encouraging.  I’m getting traffic on the keywords I’m targeting and traffic directly from the galleries I submitted.

If my gallery gets accepted at thehun, the numbers could be 10 times higher, have to wait and see.  Again, I’m also waiting for the free site approvals.  This can take weeks.

I’ve only made 3 posts on the blog last month and none this month, yet many of the keywords from the post titles are getting hits from the search engines. I discovered a new auto post plugin for photos called “photoq”.  I’m gonna try and set this up today and have it update my blog with pics automatically.  This is going to be a real time saver for my blogs in the future.  I have a few other tricks up my sleeve to do this effectively, so I will post later once I have it all worked out.

I was feeling lucky yesterday for some reason.  Sometimes I can just feel a sale coming! Low and behold, I made another sale with totemcash for $23 commission and fling for $35.  I’m up $336 overall this month.  Not really feeling it today, but have high hopes for nastydollars daredorm.  Hopefully I’ll break the $500 mark that I keep mentioning.

Anyway, hope this post helps you other newbies like me.  I’m doing my best to share everything I know.  I don’t mind you copying everything I do, but remember you really need to come up with your own strategies.  Copying someone else rarely gets you the same results (not that you’d want to copy me – I’m only make beer money).

Hopefully you’ll see something here that I am missing and can jump on it.  If you’d like to share your efforts in detail, I’m thinking about opening up this blog so you can post directly.  Or if you have your own blog, I’ll be happy to post your link in the sidebar under “webmaster” links.  I already have clitpass, howling-wulf and jesterx there.

Good luck today – make some sales!

  2. I use ifranview which is free. To do what you want with irfanview, you’d have to do it in a few steps.

Many pictures are landscape and portriat mixed together, so when you make thumbs the same size, they look distorted.
To avoid this, you need to resize and crop the originals.
So if you have picture1 at 1200×1600 and picture2 at 1600×1200, use irfanview to crop to the smallest side. In this case 1200×1200 from the top left corner. Save these to a new folder.
To make the thumbs – resize the cropped images in the new folder using irfanview. Select resizing only one side (long side) to 200 and select “maintain aspect ratio” so the pictures don’t get distorted. Save the images to your thumbnail folder.

Now just point your thumbnails to your original pics (not the ones you cropped) for your gallery.

It’s a little tricky, so you may need to practice a bit. Just watch out with the naming and folders. I’ve accidently overwritten the originals and had to download again. Also, sometimes the cropped image doesn’t always give you the best part of the picture, so you can experiment with cropping from different corners.

I may do a tutorial with screen shots in a later post. Hope that helps.

PS. the above steps make 200×200 square thumbs. To do 200×300 thumbs, crop the original pics to 800×1200, then resize. All the pixel counts are relative to the original picture sizes, so you’ll have to adjust accordingly. Like I said, just experiment and you’ll get the hang of it in no time.
